Rankings are based upon 2008 Conference Tournament Results only.

The Rankings are created based upon a minimum of 5 Conference games against B teams or higher.
The minimum number of Conference games will change as more tournaments are played.

The Rankings are sorted by Average Points per game against B teams or higher.

Rankings Formula explained:

Each team receives:
8 points for defeating a Major class team
5 points for defeating an A class team
2 points for defeating a B class team

Each team receives an additional:
8 points for winning a tournament
6 points for finishing 2nd
4 points for finishing 3rd
2 points for finishing 4th

And finally each team has their point total reduced by:
1 point for each time they lose to a major team
2 points for losing to an A team
3 points for losing to a B team
4 points for losing to a C team
6 points for losing to a D team
8 points for losing to an E team.

Each teams total points are then divided by the number of games they have played against upper level (Major, A, and B) teams.

For short the formula is:

AveragePointsPerGame =
((weighted wins against upper teams)
+ (weighted top 4 in tournament finishes)
- (weighted losses))/ (# of upper games)

The average points per game is then sorted highest to lowest and those are the rankings.

Thats pretty complex... reminds me of our formula for sizing Grease Interceptors... Pretty sure that no matter what you do Dan Smith and Resmondo will still end up 1 2

Anyway to apply the system to the last couple of seasons as well? Or maybe you guys already did to test it out.... be interesting to see those results as well...

When I get some free time, I will try it out on past seasons and post the results.

This system is open to suggestions for small tweaks, but I believe it will work.

The only problem I can see with it, is that it is for the full season. It will not help the team that gets hot at the end and it will hurt a good team that goes through a real bad spell.

No system is perfect though. This one does take opinion and subjectivity out of the equation though.

We all know the top 2 but what we really should focus on is after that to see who is the best in a and b and let them battle it out for tops til worlds.

getting hot late in the year shouldn't make a team the best in country. the best team is the most consistent with the best track record. so i think your formula will work well.

I agree Cali, thats all a ranking system is for in the first place. The trophy at the end is the most important thing. Thats why the one holding the crown at the end of the season is the true champion.
