View Full Version : Question for Scott Kirby or other major
Scott,
When we usually hit BP we go out and hit 2 rounds, each round containing 45 balls, and on occasion 3 three rounds. The first round usually not as good as second or third...
Anyway my question to you or any other major player is this, I was thinking about soft toss for the first round of BP then hitting away for the second round. I was thinking that soft toss would help with eye, hand coordination and bat speed..What are your thought about BP and soft toss?
Also you mentioned in another post about when you were driving a golf ball for distance you learned somethings about hand speed. What did you learn that helped you with your softball swing?
Thanks,
KAL

my first 5 swings are tap backs to the pitcher. the next 10-15 swings are usually soft line drives to right field. better known as "the dink". then i go through my rounds from right field to right center, center, left center and left. all about 20 good hard swings. finish my bp session with about 10 or so "middle shots" real low and hard either side of the pitcher.
i think soft toss would mess your mechanics up for slow pitch. you know, kinda make you rush your swing on short notice. could actually throw your timing off. just my opinion. i have no facts to back my theory, but for soem reason it makes sense to me.
also, what i have done in the past for hand eye coordination is 2 things.
1, i hit left handed. not trying to kill it but just make decent contact. no home run swings. just decent squared up contact. makes me focus because im a righty.
and 2, they make plastic golf wiffle balls. like the ones you would use for your office or living room putting practice. about 15 of those thrown from about 10-12 feet away and hitting them with a wiffle ball bat. it will make a softball look like a watermelon. and it is hard to hit. so you have to again, focus!
best of luck.

1. Yes, I think that would be a great drill before bp to get you loose. 2 years ago I would take about 20 short tosses out in front up the middle first and then go into live bp.
2. Leverage and torque come to mind also the release of the club head at impact.(you want to get as close to that as possible at impact with the softball as well) There are many different things I learned from that experience.
